CHICAGO – January, 2009 – The Emmett Leahy Award Committee announced today that nominations have opened for the 2009 Emmett Leahy Award. Supported by Huron Consulting Group, this award globally recognizes an individual whose unique contributions and outstanding accomplishments have had a significant impact on the records and information management profession. The Emmett Leahy Award has been conferred since 1967 and is widely considered the highest individual award in the field of records and information management.
“More than forty years ago, Emmett Leahy's pioneering efforts had a profound impact on redefining information and records management processes to meet the escalating information needs of business and government,” said Charles Dollar, chair of the 2009 Emmett Leahy Award Committee. “Today we are charged with a similar mission redefining records management processes to meet the complex information needs of organizations in a highly regulated, electronic and litigious age. The Emmett Leahy Award recognizes the past contributors to the records management and information profession and at the same time, encourages the pioneer spirit of those who are paving the way for the future.”

Any individual who has had a major impact on the field of records and information management is eligible. A nomination letter providing contact information for the individual along with a brief description of his/her impact on the records and information management profession should be sent to Charles Dollar at charles@emmettleahyaward.org by March 1, 2009. The 2009 Emmett Leahy Award Committee, which consists of the previous ten recipients, will review the nominations and select six to eight finalists who will be invited to submit a formal application by July 1, 2009.
The Committee will select the individual whose contributions have had a significant impact on the records management and information profession and present the award to the 2009 Emmett Leahy Award recipient at the 54th Annual ARMA International Conference in Orlando , FL on October 18-22, 2009.
